Zinchenko, Saliba, Trossard selected for Euro 2024

Oleksandr Zinchenko celebrates Ukraine qualifying for Euro 2024

With Euro 2024 now less than two weeks away, three Gunners will definitely be at the tournament when it gets underway in Germany on June 14.

Most national teams have named preliminary squads over the allotted 26 players as their managers continue to mull their options, but some of our stars can breathe easy after being included in their nations' final selections.

Firstly, William Saliba has been called up by France for the tournament. Our young defender was picked for the 2022 World Cup where he helped Les Bleus reach the final, and has 13 caps to his name.

Three of those came in the Euro 2024 qualifiers, and he’ll hope to have the chance to impress manager Didier Deschamps in warm-up matches against Luxembourg and Canada before their Group D clashes against Poland, the Netherlands and Austria in what looks like a tough group.

Belgium have also confirmed 25 of the players that will travel to Germany with them, and that list includes Leandro Trossard.

Leo has 33 caps and seven goals for the Red Devils since debuting back in September 2020, and is heading to his second European Championships. He featured in four of his side’s eight qualifiers to reach the 2024 edition, netting twice in that time.

He will hope to secure his place in the side that kicks off the competition in friendlies against Montenegro and Luxembourg in Brussels this week, before they encounter Slovakia, Romania and Ukraine in Group E.

In that potentially crucial finale, Leo could come up against teammate Oleksandr Zinchenko, who will be captaining his country at the finals after being confirmed in their final squad.

It is no surprise to see Alex selected by manager Serhiy Rebrov, as he has been a mainstay of the national team since he was first picked back in 2015. In that time, the left-back - who features mainly in central midfield at international level - has won 60 caps and scored nine goals for his country.

It is a third Euros for him, having played in all three group games at Euro 2016 in France where Ukraine suffered an early elimination, but they did get to the quarter-finals of Euro 2020 before exiting at the hands of England in what was Alex’s fifth game of the championships.

He featured in six of their eight qualifiers, as well as their play-off wins against Bosnia and Iceland to once again make it to the finals, this time against all odds as they continue to be ravaged by the ongoing war with Russia.

After warm-up matches against Germany, Poland and Moldova, Alex will hope to proudly lead his nation out against Romania on June 17, before their other group matches against Slovakia and Trossard’s Belgium.

A host of other Gunners will find out if they’ve made the cut for the finals over the coming week, with the deadline for nations team to submit their final squads being Friday, June 7.

They include:
Kai Havertz, Germany (in 27-man squad)
Kieran Tierney, Scotland (in 28-man squad)
David Raya, Spain (in 29-man squad)
Jorignho, Italy (in 30-man squad)
Jakub Kiwior, Poland (in 29-man squad)
Aaron Ramsdale, Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, England (in 33-man squad)
