Jakub Kiwior

Kiwior Headshot

Polish defender Jakub joined Arsenal in January 2023 from Italian side Spezia, having played a leading role for his country at the World Cup the previous month. The youngster had turned heads in Serie A and has made a good first impression in north London, too – having debuted in a 2-2 draw with Sporting in the Europa League, he made his first Premier League start in the 3-1 win over Chelsea in May and kept his place for the remaining three games, scoring his first Arsenal goal in the final-day 5-0 win over Wolves.

The tall, athletic, left-footed central defender, who can also play at left back, spent his youth career at Polish club GKS Tychy and in Belgium with Anderlecht before moving to Slovakian side FK Zeleziarne Podbrezova as an 18 year old. He then joined MSK Zilina, helping them to second in the league and the Slovakian Cup final, before signing for Spezia in August 2021, and impressive displays in Serie A led to an international debut in June 2022. He played every minute of Poland’s World Cup campaign in Qatar, which brought clean sheets in their opening two matches against Mexico and Saudi Arabia and a place in the last 16 for the first time in 36 years.
