Although he didn’t add to his solitary first-team appearance last term, talented goalkeeper Karl remained a vital part of the squad, and the Estonia international signed a new contract with the club this summer.
A bright prospect from a young age, he made his senior debut against Brighton & Hove Albion at Emirates Stadium in the Carabao Cup in November 2022, having joined our academy in June 2018 and signed his first professional contract the following year.
Karl has been a regular for Estonia since making his senior debut inSeptember 2020 at the age of 18. He played the full 90 minutes at home to Georgia in the UEFA Nations League, and has been a regular ever since.
The 6ft 4in keeper, who cuts an imposing figure between the posts but also has great technique, joined from Estonian side Nomme United, where he made his debut at the age of 16.
The Estonian Young Player of the Year in 2020 and 2021 featured in the first-team squad in 2021/22 before joining Championship side Reading on loan for the second half of the campaign and helping them avoid relegation. He also featured four times for our under-21s last season.
