Skilful Belgian forward Leandro added a new dimension to Arsenal’s front line when he joined the club from Brighton & Hove Albion in January 2023. Settling into the side seamlessly, he netted his first goal for the club in the 1-1 draw against Brentford on February 11, and a month later became the first player in Premier League history to assist three goals in the first half of an away game in the 3-0 win at Fulham. The versatile forward, who boasts exceptional vision and close control, finished the campaign with ten assists in just 20 Premier League appearances for the Gunners. Effective either out wide or through the middle, and genuinely two-footed, he won our player of the month award for March.

Prior to that, he had made a big impact on the south coast last term, becoming the first Brighton player to score a Premier League hat-trick in their 3-3 draw at Liverpool – he is also the first player since former Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla to register a hat-trick of goals and assists in the same season. Leandro moved to England in 2019 after starting his career with Genk – he had a number of productive loan spells before returning to help the club to the league title in 2018/19. A full Belgian international since 2020, he featured at the 2022 World Cup.
