When you see Alexis in full flight, it is hard to imagine a time when the forward would ever be assailed by self-doubt.
But the Chilean admits that in his first training session on trial at Cobreloa, he was unsure how he would cope with the demands of professional football.
“I remember the early days when I first went to Santiago with another player. I loved it because it was amazing,” Alexis told Arsenal Player.
“I was playing football on a grass pitch rather than on a dirt one that I was used to. Everything was so incredible, I could hardly believe it. I knew that playing with this team would be the right thing for me.
“I remember the first training session there. The ball came to me and, for a second, all sorts of things went through my mind. I controlled the ball, started passing it to the other players and immediately I was in my element.
“Before I got going, I had thought that it might not go well for me, but as soon as I touched the ball I felt completely fine. Everything changed.”
