Wenger on Flamini, Xhaka, Puel, Howe

As ever, Arsene Wenger’s pre-match press conference covered a lot of ground, from former Arsenal players to one of our new signings and our next opponents.

Take a look at these quotes from the boss:

on Flamini’s move to Palace…
He will bring them experience. They have bought quite well, because they now have Flamini, Benteke and Loic Remy. They have strengthened their squad well, with Cabaye in midfield they will be a strong team.

on concerns about Granit Xhaka’s discipline…
We have a concern about the discipline of every player. I believe that the results are linked with discipline. If you have no discipline it is very difficult to make results.

on Eddie Howe’s managerial quality…
Honestly I don’t know who will take my job one day, I don’t know who will take your job one day either! These are questions that are for me that are impossible to answer. I give my best for as long as I am here and I wish the best to the guy who comes after me.

on Southampton boss Claude Puel…
He now has good experience because he is over 50, he has worked a long time in France and he is a guy who has a great will to do well and has a great knowledge of the game. He has done extremely well at Nice, his last club, so I believe he is equipped to have an impact in the Premier League.

on whether Puel took him out in training once…
Puel was well known in training to be a good tackler. Even on the morning of a cup final he would put a tackle in, and even if it was the manager - no problem!

on how the international break disrupts organisation…
That’s a little bit the problem at the top level of competition. You do not have enough time to practise and you have many competitions. I could focus on the players that stayed here for the two weeks, and see how everybody comes back, maybe rest a few because we play again on Tuesday. The fact that I have a very complete squad [makes] these decisions easier.
