As throughout her Arsenal career, Swiss midfielder Lia was an authoritative figure in the centre of the pitch when fit last season, yet was disappointed to miss the closing weeks of the campaign with injury.
Known as 'Snake Hips' for her ability to dodge tackles, Lia’s reading of the game, ball-retention skills and precision passing were as important as ever bridging our defence and attack in 2023/24, and as a senior member of the squad she is a great example to our array of talented young midfielders.
Lia featured 15 times in the WSL last term and made 22 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal – the third of her Arsenal career – in the 5-1 win over Watford in the FA Cup fourth round.
She has been an integral part of our midfield since she arrived from German giants Turbine Potsdam in the summer of 2018, and her newly formed partnership with Kim Little in the centre of the park paid instant dividends as we won the WSL title in her first season with the club in 2018/19.
A Switzerland international since 2011 and captain since 2019, Lia featured at the 2015 World Cup and has scored five goals for her country up to the end of last season.
