Arsenal at Sport Positive 2023

Sustainability Sport Positive 2023

This week saw the coming together of sports clubs, venues and governing bodies at the annual Sport Positive summit, held at the Kia Oval in south London.

The event provides the great and the good of the sustainable world the opportunity to come together over two days to help each other learn and develop strategies and practices that will help us all reduce our environmental impact. Sustainability manager Michael Lloyd attended for Arsenal and found it hugely beneficial.

“It’s really interesting and helpful to learn what other clubs and venues are doing,” he said. “We are all trying to achieve the same thing and sharing experiences is vital to helping us all be better. It was great to meet up with those clubs we are already working with across the Premier League and Europe and to make new friends from the sustainability world.

“Topics discussed included creating carbon footprints, innovation, sport’s role in changing actions and education. There were speakers present from right across the globe, including Australia and USA with some well-known special guests in attendance too, such as rugby league star Martin Offiah and rugby union legend Jonny Wilkinson.

“The director of sustainability from Manchester City was also in attendance and, unlike the game today, which will be extremely competitive, the sustainability world takes a more collaborative approach, and City have been very willing to share ideas and best practice with us – as have all the clubs.”
