Green Football Weekend

Arsenal Green Football Weekend

This weekend is Green Football Weekend, an initiative that encourages supporters to make more sustainable choices.

This year Green Football Weekend is asking supporters to consider vegetarian alternatives in their diet – with the opportunity to score “green goals” for their club.

One of the club's great ambassadors for sustainability is Academy goalkeeper Alexei Rojas-Fedorushchenko, someone we have featured in this section previously discussing environmental issues and highlighting his commute to the training ground by bicycle.

Alexei recently addressed Reclaim, a special weekend hosted at the Eden Project that focused on mental health and planetary wellbeing. He spoke alongside Elliot Arthur-Worsop, founder of Football For Future, as the two discussed the role of football in sustainability.

Alexei is an environmental champion for our Academy and played a major role in removing single-use plastic from Hale End, as well as introducing compostable packaging and better means of recycling and waste sorting across our sites.

“It’s so inspiring to be at the Eden Project and hear the different points of view on what is one of the most pressing issues our world,” Alexei told us.

“I’ve always believed that making small changes to how we act and live can make a big difference to our collective impact on the world. I’ve always encouraged my team-mates and colleagues at Arsenal to make more sustainable choices.

“Football is in a unique position to inspire people across the world in a way that no other industry can. We all have a duty to take action now, and I hope that moments like this can inspire more people to make meaningful changes to their lives.”

Alexei also recently joined Common Goal, where he will continue to champion sustainability.
