Arsenal have been members of BASIS, British Association for Sustain Sport, since its creation way back in 2011. Since then the organisation has slowly been growing and gaining members and influence in the drive to make sport more sustainable.
On Tuesday, April 25, BASIS held its annual conference, this year hosted at Ashton Gate stadium in Bristol, home to Bristol City FC and Bristol Bears Rugby. In an action-packed day, attendees were able to learn from speakers drawn from a broad spectrum of sports.
Among the speakers were representatives from British Cycling, the London Marathon, Sky Sports, UK Sport and, naturally, Bristol City. The topics discussed were as broad as the background of the attendees, ranging from waste and packaging management and development to sponsorship.
We believe it is essential to use these opportunities to learn from others both in our field and elsewhere. It’s also important that we communicate how our football club is responding to the climate emergency and that we remain at the forefront of the industry in this respect.
It was encouraging to note that several of the key Arsenal suppliers, including CBRE (facilities engineering) and Veolia (waste solutions), were also in attendance, further illustrating the importance of a collective approach and making sure we are working with the best people on our sustainability journey.
