WHAT HAPPENED
Khayon Edwards and Matt Smith fired us to the summit of the Premier League 2 table as we beat Leicester City 2-1 on Monday night.
We came into this one full of confidence following last week's win over Northampton Town in the Papa Johns Trophy and picked up exactly where we left off from that result.
Khayon Edwards, back at this level after gaining valuable experience with the first team in their two previous Europa League squads, bundled the ball home from Nathan Butler-Oyedeji's cross to give us the lead inside 15 minutes.
Butler-Oyedeji almost had a goal of his own minutes later, but sent his strike over the bar from close range after Catalin Cirjan's pinpoint delivery.
The hosts restored parity shortly after the reset, Will Alves catching Mehmet Ali's side cold with a solo run into the box and finishing beyond Karl Hein.
It looked as though the points would be shared as we entered the closing stages, but for Matt Smith's penalty five minutes from time, our skipper finding the top corner following a Leicester handball.
We withstood the hosts' late surge to wrap up the three points and go top of the Premier League 2 table for the first time this season.
WHAT IT MEANS
We go top of the Premier League 2 table after nine matches played, one point clear of second-place Crystal Palace, and extend our unbeaten record in the process.
WHAT'S NEXT
We're back in Premier League action on Monday, October 31, when we host Crystal Palace.
Kick-off at Meadow Park is at 7pm (UK time).
