Odegaard - We needed the win today

After scoring three goals in three games in the Premier League, Martin Odegaard was in good spirits following our impressive 3-0 victory over Southampton on Saturday.

Our no. 8 reflected on a positive performance but admitted there was still work to be done.

"I'm very happy," Odegaard told Arsenal Media. "We needed the win today after two defeats and we needed to strike back and we did that with a good game, a good performance and a 3-0 win, so it’s a good day.

"I think we had some moments where we didn’t manage the ball in the best of ways, especially in the first half we lost a lot of second balls. We played with a little too much stress in the moment, but I think after that we controlled the game and the second half was brilliant. [It finished] 3-0 so we’re very happy.

"I'm very happy to help the team to get results. I’ve scored in other games as well but we didn’t win so it doesn’t mean anything. Today it’s important that we won so I’m very happy. Yes, it [was my first headed goal], it’s not my biggest strength. I would say I was in the right place at the right time.

"We practice these things every day, every day we play out from the back and we practice different ways to get up from the back and that goal was the result of what we do on the training pitch."
