World Cup knockout stage: Who’s playing, and when?

Five of our players have reached the last 16 of this summer’s World Cup.

Nacho Monreal is the first Gunner in action with Spain when they face hosts Russia on Sunday, July 1 (3pm). Fernando Hierro’s side reached the last 16 by topping Group B with draws against Portugal and Morocco, in addition to a win over Iran.

Granit Xhaka will then be in action for Switzerland against Sweden on Tuesday, July 2 (3pm). Vladimir Petkovic’s team qualified for the last 16 by finishing second to Brazil in Group E, but will be without captain Stephan Lichtsteiner for Tuesday’s clash after our new arrival picked up his second yellow card of the tournament against Costa Rica.

And then later that day, David Ospina’s Colombia take on Danny Welbeck’s England at Spartak Stadium (7pm). Colombia reached the knockout stage by topping Group H ahead of Japan, Senegal and Poland, while Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions qualified in second behind Belgium in Group G.
