Wenger - Lacazette gives us another dimension

Alexandre Lacazette may not have been too involved in Sunday’s Emirates Cup defeat to Sevilla but when he was called upon, he delivered.

The France international was in the right place at the right time to slot Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s cross home at the far post, and Arsène Wenger believes our new striker’s eye for goal will give us a new dimension going into the new season.

“For a striker it’s vital,” the manager told Arsenal Player. “I think he has shown some good things. He was not involved a lot because we didn’t have a lot the ball today, like we’re used to having, and the strikers suffer from that. Overall, what he has done is good.

“It’s his strength. He has a very strong record in scoring goals and that comes from the fact that he is in the right positions in the box and anticipates well. Overall, that is a very important quality that will be needed throughout the season.

“We didn’t have the same dynamic as yesterday,” Wenger added. “We didn’t really look sharp. Sometimes it is good though to play with tired legs and to dig deep.

"I still think we could have drawn, but overall we played against two good teams over the weekend and that’s what you want to prepare you for the season. We had tough game and everybody got 90 minutes."
