World Cup: Miedema, Roord, Van de Donk lose final

Danielle van de Donk

We had three of our players taking part in Sunday's Women's World Cup final between Netherlands and United States. Scroll down to find out how they got on:

Vivianne Miedema and Danielle van de Donk played the full 90 minutes, while Jill Roord was a 70th-minute substitute, as Netherlands were defeated by USA in Lyon.

After a goalless first half, Megan Rapinoe made the difference with her sixth goal of the competition. Alex Morgan went down under a high foot in the box and Rapinoe stepped up to hammer home from the spot, and edge out her team-mate for the Golden Boot.

Rose Lavelle then doubled the reigning champions' lead, twisting on the edge of the box to fire into the bottom corner and secure the USA's fourth World Cup.

Elsewhere, Beth Mead played 50 minutes as England were beaten 2-1 by Sweden in Saturday's third-place play-off. Leah Williamson was an unused substitute.

Kosovare Asllani and Sofia Jakobsson gave the Swedes an early two-goal lead, before Fran Kirby pulled one back on the half-hour mark.

Mead then thought she'd assisted an equaliser, drilling in a cross for Ellen White to fire home, but a VAR check ruled out the goal for handball.

White would have two more chances to score, while Lucy Bronze also had a shot cleared off the line, as Sweden held on to secure bronze at this summer's tournament.
