We may have scored three goals and secured our place in the next round, but Alex Iwobi was most impressed by the squad’s mental approach to our Europa League victory over BATE Borisov on Thursday night.
A comfortable win at Emirates Stadium meant we ran out 3-1 winners on aggregate, but there was considerable pressure on the team following defeat in the first leg in Belarus.
Here’s what Iwobi had to say after the final whistle:
on what pleased him about the performance…
That we showed that we’re able to come back and there’s fight in the team. We worked hard together and individually and you can see that we did it tonight for the team, for the staff and for the fans.
on Mesut Ozil being in the team…
We know what Mesut’s like, we see him in training every day. He’s world class. You know we’ll create a lot of chances with him in the side so we just have to hope that we put our chances away and we’re able to score three goals from it, like today. So hopefully he continues to play.
on the connection with him and Ozil and what it’s about for him…
It’s about trying to create space and makes the right runs. I know if I make a run he’ll be able to find me because he’s got the vision to spot it, so I just have to make it easier and try to make a run so that he can play the ball for me.
on whether we’ve seen the best from Arsenal yet this season…
We’ve had good moments and we’ve had bad moments as well but we keep on fighting and we keep on going. We don’t really dwell on the negatives too much, so like I said, there’s always more and you can always improve. So no matter how well you’ve played, there’s always more you can add to your game.
