Trio selected by England for pre-Euro friendlies

Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice and Aaron Ramsdale have been selected for England’s Euro 2024 warm-up matches against Bosnia & Herzegovina and Iceland next month.

The trio are part of the Three Lions’ 33-man squad as Gareth Southgate takes one final look at his options ahead of the tournament in Germany this summer, which will be whittled down to a final list of 26.

Before then, England take on Bosnia in Newcastle on Monday, June 3 before Iceland head to Wembley on Friday, June 7 - the date Southgate has until to make his final section for the Euros, when they’ll face Serbia, Denmark and Slovenia in the group stages as they seek their first ever European Championships triumph.

Bukayo, Declan and Aaron will be hoping to all get the nod to feature in the friendlies, as well as receive call-ups to their third major finals, having all been a part of the Euro 2020 and 2022 World Cup travelling parties.

Bukayo has won 32 caps and scored 11 goals for his country, while Declan completed a half-century of caps in the most recent international break in March when he captained his country for the first time against Belgium.

Aaron meanwhile has made four appearances for the Three Lions, with the last coming against Scotland back in September.

Southgate has opted to hand call-ups to a host of uncapped players, including Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite, Liverpool duo Jarell Quansah and Curtis Jones and Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford, while regulars Jordan Henderson, Marcus Rashford, Ben Chilwell and Raheem Sterling miss out.
