We’re back in Women’s Super League action on Wednesday evening when we take on Sunderland at Mariners Park.
Scroll down to find out more about our opponents ahead of our penultimate game of the season.
THE OPPOSITION
Sunderland have struggled this season, but they won’t be pushovers.
The Black Cats sit ninth in the Women’s Super League, only above Yeovil Town, but can still rise to seventh in the table if results go their way.
Lucy Staniforth has been a rare glimmer of light in an otherwise difficult season for Sunderland.
Their captain has netted 10 times in 23 appearances this campaign and is a goalscoring midfielder who leads by example on the pitch.
LAST TIME WE MET
Joe Montemurro picked up a win in his first match in charge as we beat Sunderland to progress to the semi-finals of the Continental Cup back in December.
After Dan Carter struck the crossbar early on, we broke the deadlock when Jordan Nobbs coolly side-footed Lisa Evans’ cross past Rachel Laws.
Then, on the stroke of half-time, Vivianne Miedema timed her run perfectly to meet Carter’s delivery and head in at the near post.
Bridget Galloway then pulled a goal back for Sunderland, but former Black Cat Beth Mead sealed our place in the final four by racing through on goal and slotting into the bottom corner.
ONE TO WATCH
Having already scored against her former club once this season, Mead’s form suggests it would be foolish to bet against her netting again on Wednesday.
The England striker scored a 62nd-minute winner to complete our comeback against Manchester City on the weekend, her 14th of a stellar season.
That run has also included deciders against Millwall Lionesses and Everton, while she has opened the scoring on five occasions this term.
Growing in confidence and influence, Mead is fulfilling her potential in north London.
