Saka, Rice and Ramsdale called up for Euro 2024

Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka celebrate scoring for England

Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice and Aaron Ramsdale are all heading to Euro 2024 after being confirmed in England’s squad for the tournament.

The trio have been a mainstay of Gareth Southgate’s previous selections, and having been part of the Euro 2020 and 2022 World Cup travelling parties, they now complete a hat-trick of tournament call-ups.

England will attempt to go one step further than the previous European Championships and claim their first major honour in 58 years, starting with a game against Serbia on Sunday, June 16. Four days later they tackle Denmark, whom they beat in the semi-finals of Euro 2020, before the group stage comes to a close against Slovenia five days later.

They cruised through the qualifying stages unbeaten, with Bukayo netting four times in seven appearances, including a hat-trick against North Macedonia. Declan meanwhile played in all eight qualifiers, scoring his third and last international goal against Italy in March 2023.

Bukayo has won 32 caps and scored 11 goals for his country, while Declan completed a half-century of caps in March when he captained his country for the first time against Belgium. Aaron meanwhile has made four appearances for the Three Lions, with the last coming against Scotland in September.

Southgate has dropped established stars Jack Grealish, Harry Maguire and James Maddison from his initial 33-man preliminary squad, while youngsters Curtis Jones, Jarell Quansah, Jarrad Branthwite and James Trafford also miss out.

The Three Lions will round off their preparations for the tournament with a friendly against Iceland at Wembley on Friday evening.
