Arsenal defender Leah Williamson recently spent an afternoon at The Arsenal Hub to take a look at our Girls Football League.

Arsenal in the Community and Arsenal Women jointly deliver a Girls Football programme in Islington, Camden, Hackney and Hertsmere to inspire and motivate Girls aged 11+ to play football. Funded by the Premier League Charitable Fund and the Football Association, sessions are delivered across the week in a range of school and community venues.

A key part of the programme is the Girls Football League which takes place at The Arsenal Hub every Thursday after school hours. The indoor facilities hosts a total of 140 participants across 24 teams from 14 London schools.

The league season runs alongside the academic year for Girls aged 11-13 and 14-16. During her visit Leah met a number of Girls on the programme and spoke to the teachers.

Leah spoke of the experience and said: “As a fan of the club I am so proud of the work that Arsenal do for the community. It’s also great to see girls being encouraged to play football from an early age.”
