Szczesny - We're defending as a team now

Wojciech Szczesny says the whole Arsenal team deserve to take credit for the form that has seen them concede just four times in their last nine games.

A solid defensive performance at Queens Park Rangers laid the foundation for an important 1-0 win on Saturday afternoon.

Szczesny drew plaudits after springing to his left to keep out Loic Remy's late curler but the goalkeeper was more impressed with the way his team-mates dealt with late pressure at Loftus Road.

"I don't think it was a great save," he told Arsenal Player. "There wasn't a lot of pace on the shot so it was easy to reach.

"I don't think it's all about the save - it's about the team performance"

"It might sound funny but I don't think it was that difficult a save. A big one in the context of the fight for the top four but I'm not getting too excited.

"I think in the last 15 minutes when they put the pressure on we handled it quite well. We didn't have a lot of height in our defence today so set pieces were a big test and we handled it brilliantly.

"I don't think it's all about the save - it's about the team performance. We kept another clean sheet. We've not been conceding a lot of goals recently so that's very important.

"I'd settle for another two 1-0s for the rest of the season and a place in the top three. Hopefully we can keep it going. Even if a game like this is boring at times, we couldn't care less at this time. We just want to get the three points and go back home."

Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny were again impressive at the weekend but Szczesny is putting the team's recent solidarity at the back down to collective workrate.

"They have got a lot of credit but I think we should focus on how we defend as a team," he said. "It's not just the two centre backs and the goalkeeper who makes save, it's the whole team and the way we defend.

"[With] set pieces and our shape, a lot of credit has to go to Steve Bould as well for his work. Yes, they've [the centre backs have] been fantastic and they've got the credit they deserve but I believe there's a lot of people helping them out."
