Szczesny - We’ll show what we’re made of

Wojciech Szczesny says Arsenal will "show what we’re made of" during a challenging run of fixtures in February and March.

Arsene Wenger’s side were held to a 2-2 draw against Southampton on Tuesday night after a pulsating game at St Mary’s.

While Szczesny was disappointed not to extend Arsenal's winning run, he insists they must pick themselves up quickly.

"We'll go into this period with plenty of confidence and we hope to show people what we're made of"

“It is very tight, but it doesn’t matter who is top of the league now,” he told Arsenal Player. “We have been there for quite a while but what matters is who finishes top in mid-May.

“We want to focus on our next game against Crystal Palace, get the three points there and then we have a very hard run. We will have to be at our very best so we have to leave [the Southampton game] behind us and move on as quickly as possible.

“We will go into this period with plenty of confidence and we hope to show people what we are made of.”

Szczesny was impressed with Southampton, whose high-energy approach caused the Gunners problems on the south coast.

“In [terms of] pressing high up they are by far the best in the Premier League, it’s tough to get out of your own half,” he said. “Credit to them, that’s their tactic and it worked well in the first half - we managed to get out a few times in the second half and it was a much more even game.

“When you play for Arsenal, you’re always disappointed when you don’t win - especially when you’ve been 2-1 up. But having said that, we were very lucky to come in 1-0 [down] at half time. They had played much better than us and would have been disappointed with a draw as well, but it is a well-deserved point for both teams.”
