Aaron Ramsey believes that defensive solidity underpinned the impressive end-of-season run that saw Arsenal finish in the top four.
Arsene Wenger’s side won eight and drew two of their last 10 league games and conceded only five goals during that time.
The team kept another clean sheet in Sunday’s pivotal 1-0 victory at Newcastle United and Ramsey says the team were delighted to finally secure their place in the Champions League.
“We're over the moon with that,” he told Arsenal Player. “We were nervous and it showed in parts in the game today. But we got the job done and we're delighted that we've got fourth place.
"We've gone on a terrific run in the second half of the season. Hopefully we can take that into next season and give it a real good go"
“We finished the job off in the end. We've been on a fantastic run and we continued it again today so full credit to the lads.
“We've shown, especially in the second half of the season, we're so much more defensively solid as a team and we showed [it] again today. We got our goal and we saw it out.
“We've gone on a terrific run in the second half of the season. Hopefully we can take that into next season and give it a real good go next year.
“Hopefully now the boys can get a good rest and come back nice and refreshed next season and pick up where we've left off, taking our great form that we've been in of late into next season."
Ramsey also paid tribute to the travelling Arsenal fans at St. James' Park.
“Especially in this sort of stadium where the home fans are always really vocal, we could hear our fans in among all of their fans," he said.
"They did a terrific job today in getting behind us and supporting us and we're delighted. We've done it for the team and for the fans as well.”
