The 1971/72 Highbury campaign kicked off with a very special parade.

The previous season, Arsenal won their first league title for 18 years and their first FA Cup for 21 years, in the process becoming only the second team in the 20th century to do the Double.

Neither trophy could have been won in more spectacular fashion. Charlie George denied Liverpool at Wembley with an extra-time winner in the Cup Final. And Ray Kennedy's header bounced in off the underside of the bar to clinch the title at White Hart Lane.

The Highbury faithful deserved a chance to share in some of the glory and say thank you to their team. They were given the chance when the trophies were paraded at Highbury before the first home game of the season against Chelsea.

The Blues paraded a trophy of their own after winning the European Cup Winners' Cup a few months earlier.

When the spoils of a successful season had been put to one side, Arsenal gave their fans another reason to celebrate after beating Chelsea 3-0 with goals from Frank McLintock, John Radford and Ray Kennedy.
