Olivier Giroud is ready to fight for his place if Arsenal buy a new striker before the transfer window closes.
The France international has scored in each of the Gunners' three games this season and broke the deadlock at Fulham on Saturday with a deft finish from inside the box.
Giroud has been in excellent touch all summer - he scored eight goals in pre-season - and he knows he has a major role to play.
"We really wanted to show the squad is together, we wanted to give an answer on the pitch and we did well"
"I am in good [form], I feel really confident in the games," said Giroud. "If I do the job on the pitch [there are] no more questions.
"If there is a new striker that comes in it is a good thing for the squad. I try to give my best for the team to win and nothing more."
Lukas Podolski's brace followed Giroud's early strike at Craven Cottage and the Frenchman says Arsenal have responded well to last weekend's defeat to Aston Villa.
"We were really disappointed and we wanted to correct it and dictate the game [at Fulham]," he said. "We did it and we are really pleased with that.
"When it doesn't work [on the pitch] people want to talk about new signings. We really wanted to show the squad is together, we wanted to give an answer on the pitch and we did well. We played really well and scored three goals again. We are really confident now."
