Giroud - Scoring goals is an obsession

Olivier Giroud says scoring goals has always been “an obsession” for him.

The France international has had a fruitful first season in the Premier League, finding the back of the net 17 times in all competitions.

The 26-year-old admits that to be a successful striker, you must have a very particular mindset.

"You have to be a killer in front of goal, even if you miss a chance you have to keep going and believe in your qualities"

“You need to have something special, the goal is always in your head,” Giroud told Arsenal Player. “It is always a target, to want to shoot, to score and take your chance.

“You need to work on it every day in training as much as your can. In France we say it is an obsession [to score].

“You have to be a killer in front of goal, even if you miss a chance you have to keep going and believe in your qualities.

“Even if you don’t score during four or five games, like I did, you have to keep focused and have a strong mentality. [Being a striker] is a lot of things, you need to be positive and always know where the target is.

“It is very special for a striker to score because whether it is a big game or not, it is always the same sensation. You feel better after you score, you feel more relieved and you try more things, you are more confident. It is like a drug and you are so peaceful after.”
