Frank Stubbs: Fright Night

13/14: Arsenal 2-0 Liverpool - Aaron Ramsey
Aaron Ramsey

The atmosphere heading away from the stadium on Saturday evening confirmed more than anything that us Gooners were thoroughly satisfied with the previous couple of hours. My headache come Sunday morning was further evidence I enjoyed it to the full!

Looking out of the window of my luxury coach it appears our party of 39 travelling Gooners are on the outskirts of Dunkirk and conversation still turns to our superb performance.

The mood pre-match, however, wasn't one totally full of confidence. We all knew we could get a positive result but our visitors' own form added a degree of trepidation. Along with a few nerves of course!

Night games always have a special atmosphere. They did at Highbury and they do at our new home. So the early evening kick-off helped create exactly that.

Santi smashing in the opener after a good move increased that to a whole new level. London N5 was simply rocking.

Liverpool were always going to enjoy one or two chances given their potent strike partnership and the fact they are a good side. To limit them to very little was extremely satisfying.

Olly missed a great chance to double our lead early in the second period but Rambo, who else, slammed in a quite magnificent strike to cue total delirium.

It was a goal that our performance deserved and the three points we take from the game are very welcome.

Winning breeds confidence in all walks of life, including football, so not only was it a massive victory in Premier League terms it also sees us head into Germany in the kind of mood we need to be in if we are to get the result we want.

For 24 hours or so we aim to enjoy the city's hospitality before yet another huge fixture.

I guess in football, when you are challenging, every single game falls into that category.

Lunch beckons ;-)

Come on you mighty reds!!
