Wenger on Toure and transfer window

Arsène Wenger

Arsène Wenger faced the media ahead of the Premier League game against Manchester United. Here are some extra quotes from the boss. For the headlines, visit our Digest page:

on whether he has regrets over January…
No, because I don’t believe that on Saturday it was the players we missed in the transfer market who would have saved us. We have been very stable defensively until now and anyway we would not have bought defenders, so I don’t think [after] any defeat you can come out with remarks like that. What you have to consider is how well we have done until now. We are in a fantastic position with this group of players, so let’s come back to our normal level.

on the FA not banning Yaya Toure...
It is a decision we have to accept. This decision is questioned, and people who make these decisions can answer these questions. I do not know why they made the decision. One positive thing is that this committee exists and so the players know that they can be punished even after the game. That is very positive.

After that, the decision is made by human beings, and then you have to accept that we will not always agree on the way the decisions  are made. I think the only thing [that could happen] is that the people can come out and say why they made this decision. But it is a good thing that this committee and the whole [disciplinary] process exists.
