‘It’s the explosion of the passion’

Arsene Wenger

There’s nothing quite like it, according to Arsene Wenger.

He’s referring to the moment when the hard graft is rewarded, the moment the final whistle blows and you’ve won a trophy.

Once again the boss has got his hands on the Emirates FA Cup - a record seventh triumph in the competition - and it feels as good as ever.

“It’s absolutely fantastic,” he said. “I’ve won a few doubles and I know what it’s like once a team is on a high.

“It’s the intensity of the emotions. You go out there today, where can you get that? It’s a special day for a football club and the cup is hugely popular in every single country. It’s just the explosion of the passion of people.

“When Chelsea equalised, I thought, ‘Here we go, that will give them a mental boost’. We thought they could take advantage of it, but we responded straight away. I was worried at that stage.”

Wenger is no stranger to success, but he craves it as much as he ever did. Age is no obstacle to his desire for trophies.

“I’m not a young man. I’m a very young man but I don’t look very young!” he joked.

“That’s the basic difference. I love my job and I love to win. I love to build, I love to get people going and I love what I do. I invite you to live with me one day and one thing you cannot question is my commitment.”
