'It's a win but we can still do better'

Kieran Gibbs says Saturday’s 2-0 win over Hull City will help us “get stronger” as we approach another tough period of the season.

The left back returned to the starting line-up in the Premier League for the first time since Boxing Day, and played his part as the Gunners bounced back from successive defeats with three vital points.

"It was a good chance to show a response and we certainly did that," Gibbs said. “But still at times I thought we could play a lot better. We've got a squad that can cause a lot of damage, so we will tie up those ends – defensively and in the final third – sharpen up and look even stronger.

"It's obviously nice to get a clean sheet as well after a couple of defeats, so we can look forward now."

Gibbs was booked early in the second half for a foul on Lazar Markovic, and he explained why referee Mark Clattenburg turned down Hull's appeals for a red card.

"I definitely took a chance," he said. "Lolo and Musti both jumped for the ball, and I did actually try and go for the ball.

"Mark's view was that the ball was going away from the goal, so that's all I can say."
