Olivier Giroud keeps making a difference.
In the space of seven days, he’s delivered a stunning scorpion kick to help beat Crystal Palace, he got us out of trouble at Bournemouth with two assists and a stoppage-time equaliser, and now he’s bagged a late winner in the Emirates FA Cup.
Players’ fortunes rise and fall as seasons unfold. Sometimes it’s Alexis earning all the plaudits, then it’s Mesut Ozil, Theo Walcott, or someone else. Right now it’s Giroud’s moment in the sun.
“He can’t stop scoring,” Arsene Wenger told Arsenal Player after Saturday’s win at Preston.
“He had some good service as well today. But everybody contributes in the squad and it’s moments in the season where you have to use the players when it all goes for them. Giroud has shown that at the moment in the last month he is always very decisive.
“I must say, the team has great ambition, a great togetherness and they respond always when they are in trouble and that’s a great quality.”
