'We had to change our attitude to win'

Aaron Ramsey has waited a while for his first goal of the season - but what a crucial one it was.

The Wales midfielder rattled home our equaliser from the edge of the box after just 50 seconds of the second half at Preston. Afterwards, he admitted that our first-half display wasn’t good enough.

on what was said at half-time…
I’ve played in the Championship and I know how difficult every game is. They proved that in the first half and it took us by surprise. The level of commitment and effort, we didn’t match that. Second half we needed to have a different attitude out there and I think we showed that. Obviously it was nice to score, to get on the scoresheet finally. That gave us a bit of momentum to go forward and win the game from then on.

on the wait for a goal being worthwhile…
Finally one’s gone in now so hopefully a few more will follow. But I’m just happy that we won the game.

on whether there was a sense of relief…
Yeah, it was a really tough opening half. I’ve played in the Championship and I know how difficult all the teams are to play against and we just couldn’t match their level of commitment. They just seemed to be first to everything. So it was important for us to come out and show what we are capable of doing in the second half. I think we had a positive performance.

on whether there were harsh words at half-time…
No. We all realised that wasn’t good enough for us, for this club. So it was important for us to go out there and give it a good go in the second half and we did that.

on how important his goal was in shifting the game…
Yeah I’m happy that one’s finally gone in, so that gave us a bit of momentum then to go on and get a result. We keep playing, we keep going until the end and we’ve scored a load of late goals in the Premier League, the Champions League and now the FA Cup. I think also that we had that belief to keep going until the end.

on what repeatedly coming from behind says about Arsenal…
We definitely need to start the games better to give ourselves a bit of an easier job to do. We’ve shown good character to come back from losing positions but it’d be nice now if we could turn that around and start off by leading the game.
