Olivier Giroud was the man of the moment once more as his injury-time header helped us claim an unlikely point against Bournemouth on Tuesday.
After the match, the France international and Aaron Ramsey faced the media to discuss the game and this is what they said:
on whether it feels like a win…
OG: Honestly, I was sure we could have scored the winner. When you are 3-0 down and come back, it shows strong character. We always play our game and believe in our qualities, so it was good to come back. It’s a shame that we conceded three goals like that. We should not have made these kinds of mistakes. We wanted to come back after half-time and we did well all together, but it’s very frustrating. Hopefully we’ll learn from our mistakes today.
on how we came back…
AR: It’s difficult when you start off like that but we had to continue to play, to show some character out there and be brave by doing the right things. We managed to come back in the end, but overall we’re disappointed with the way we started the game and the fact we’re only coming away with the point.
on whether his goal feels as significant as the scorpion kick…
OG: A goal is a goal. The scorpion goal was a good goal, and I’m pleased to have scored the equaliser today, but I’m still disappointed. It’s nice to be back in the game, but the way we played at the end against 10 men made me think that we should have done better. It’s like that. We came back, showed great mental strength and I will take that.
on what message this comeback sends out…
AR: We’re prepared to fight until the end. That’s the message we hope to give out, but it’s going to be difficult now. We’re a few points behind but there’s a long way to go, so hopefully there’ll still be a few more twists and turns. Overall, we’re pleased with the character we showed but we’re still disappointed.
on the red card incident…
AR: All I know is that the tackle was a bit rash and I’ll have to look back at it.
on whether it’s two points dropped…
OG: We wanted to carry on our run after the two good games at home. We bounced back after two disappointing results and we wanted to keep that going. We had a bad start tonight, so we need to focus on that in our next game by not making the same mistakes. It’s a good point because it’s really hard to come back from 3-0 down.
