Granit Xhaka and Francis Coquelin are among the top midfielders in the Premier League, but both recognise the value and impact made by their predecessor, Patrick Vieira.
The former Arsenal captain was a key figure during a golden era in our history and he isn’t short of admirers.
“I’d take back Patrick Vieira, because of his presence inside and outside the pitch,” Coquelin said.
“His leadership, the way he was playing: defending, tackling, scoring goals. I think he would be a great addition to any squad.”
Xhaka has only been a Gunner since the summer but admits that Vieira has been an idol and an influence for a long time.
"It’s always been a dream of mine to play in the Premier League,” the Swiss midfielder said. “I always used to watch the games on TV and if I really had to pick one, it’d be Patrick Vieira.
“He is an idol, a role model - especially here at Arsenal. He was also a world-class player for his national team and he played in the same position as me.”
