'Oli's towered over his defender'

Aaron Ramsey put in a shift on the left on Saturday as we showed, in Arsene Wenger’s words, “steel more than style” against Manchester United.

The Wales international tucked inside to help us control the midfield area but had his hands full with Antonio Valencia on his flank.

We caught up with Aaron after the game for a post-match briefing. Here’s what he said:

on the game…
It was a tough game for us, especially in the second half. I don’t think there was much in the first half but in the second half they got their goal. It was important for us to not give up, to still try to create something and Chambo’s gone down the line, Oli’s towered over his defender and put the ball in the back of the net. It’s good because we needed that impact at that moment of the game.

on whether this game seemed a bit flat…
There wasn’t much in the first half and I think both keepers were relatively quiet but then they upped it in the second half and it was difficult. It’s important for us to try to get a result, which we managed to do, and it keeps our unbeaten run going. They didn’t make up any points on us so we have to be happy with that.

on himself…
I felt good out there. It was difficult tracking back with Valencia out there but it was something I was asked to do and I felt alright. It’s always difficult to come here. We have played better as a team but we got the point in the end.

on international breaks and early kick-offs affecting fluency…
Some of the players came back late on Thursday so that’s never easy for them but that’s part of football. We have to deal with that and we’ll take the point.
