‘It’s our cup and we must keep it’

Natalia v Birmingham City

Arsenal Ladies have a proud record in the Continental Cup and do not intend to surrender it without a fight, according to Natalia Pablos Sanchon.

The Gunners have lifted the trophy in four of the past five seasons, but league leaders Manchester City stand in their way of reaching this year’s final.

The fixture is a repeat of last year’s quarter-final, with Natalia scoring the only goal of the game and she is keen for history to repeat itself.

“I think it’s important for the players, for me and for the club. It would be so special to win the cup,” she told Arsenal.com. “We have won four out of five, so I think it’s like our cup and we need to keep it in our hands.

“Last season I scored the goal that allowed us to reach the final and hopefully that happens again.

“I don’t remember who the ball came from, but I remember hitting a volley or something like that on the right side of the keeper. It was one of the best games of last season for us and hopefully we can repeat that performance on Sunday.

“We have got to do a lot of things well to beat Manchester City. They are well organised, their striker is playing so well and she is scoring a lot of goals. We need to be organised and we need to be confident to beat them - because we can.

“Their pitch is good for us because it’s big - we have performed well on big pitches, like Wembley. Obviously they are in a really good moment and they are unbeaten so far, but I think that we are able to beat them.”
