Losa - The fans deserve better

 By Lloyd Webb

Pedro Martinez Losa says fans deserved a better performance from Arsenal Ladies during their 2-0 defeat to Chelsea.

Fran Kirby’s goals either side of half-time condemned the Gunners to their second loss of the campaign in front of an expectant crowd at Meadow Park.

Arsenal face Chelsea again in three weeks' time for the Women’s FA Cup final, and the Losa is hoping his side will not repeat their mistakes at Wembley.

"I think Danielle van de Donk is a very good character and a very hard worker. She will show more things, because sometimes it takes time to come to a new system. The physicality of this league is different"

“It wasn't our best performance,” he told Arsenal Player. “The fans deserve a better performance and were expecting us to do better. In some moments we gave the ball [to them] for the goals.

“With the individual mistakes we made today, which is part of football, it can be difficult to compete with a opponent like Chelsea. I thought we were good, until we received a ball in behind which we were not ready for.

“From that we received a goal and after that we tried, with character, to dominate the middle and in some moments we did it. When they dominated the middle, they were more dangerous than us and created more chances than we did when we dominated that part of the game.

“In the second half, we probably dominated the possession and the game but everything they were on the counter attack, they were really dangerous. We were not capable to score that goal and obviously when the game is finished there is space for them to score a corner kick."

Sari van Veenendaal and Danielle van de Donk were stand-out performers on a difficult evening, and Losa had nothing but praise for his Dutch contingent.

“I’m very impressed,” he said. “I always mention I’m very impressed with Sari and Emma Byrne. We think that Sari is doing very well when she is playing and she is growing at the club. She had a good performance.

“I think Danielle van de Donk is a very good character and a very hard worker. She will show more things, because sometimes it takes time to come to a new system. The physicality of this league is different.”
