Arsene Wenger has expressed his surprise at Mesut Ozil’s omission from the PFA Team of the Year.
The Germany playmaker has scored six times and claimed 18 assists, and has been nominated for the PFA Player of the Year award.
However, Ozil is the only player on that six-man shortlist not to make the best XI of the season - which Wenger cannot understand.
“It’s a surprise for me,” the manager said. “I cannot explain it, because it’s the players who vote. I don’t know why they did not pick him.
“Yeah [he deserves to be in the team]. When you are top of the assists, usually that’s a sign of quality that should get you a place in a top team."
