Losa - We have to keep up our intensity

By Lloyd Webb

Pedro Martinez Losa has called on Arsenal Ladies to maintain their intensity following their 3-1 win against Reading.

The Gunners kicked off the Women’s Super League season in style thanks to goals from Dominique Janssen, Asisat Oshoala and Dan Carter.

"In the final third, we had the ball in control but we needed clearer ideas. We had six or seven situations where we could have scored goals but I think we have to work to keep the high tempo and intensity in the game"

Arsenal now face Manchester City Ladies on Monday, and Losa says his side must build on their performance ahead of an early test of their title credentials.

“I think the first three points in the pocket is very important,” the manager told Arsenal.com. “It was not the best game but it was a way to take all the pressure and the tension off and show the fans what we can achieve in the future.

“It showed the character of the players and we can be very grateful for the fans as they are always supporting us. It is a great result. In moments, we played some great football but now we have to work to be more consistent and do things even better.

“In the last two seasons, we were not capable of winning [the opening game]. This year, we were capable although every game is going to be difficult. We were very organised, we were aggressive and intense and in the middle we had control for most of the time.

"In the final third, we had the ball in control but we needed clearer ideas. We had six or seven situations where we could have scored goals but I think we have to work to keep the high tempo and intensity in the game. Hopefully we can do that in the future.”
