Pedro Martinez Losa says that he could not pass up the “incredible” opportunity to sign Josephine Henning.
The Germany defender joined Arsenal Ladies on Thursday after impressing for former clubs Wolfsburg and Paris Saint-Germain.
Henning is a three-time Women’s Champions League winner, having lifted the trophy in 2010, 2013 and 2014, and Losa is delighted with his squad’s latest addition.
"It was not in our plans to improve the defence but when you have the opportunity to get a player like Josi, you go for it"
“It was not in our plans to improve the defence but when you have the opportunity to get a player like Josi, you go for it,” he told Arsenal.com. “She is an incredible player who has adapted well to the group. She came over to Spain [during pre-season] and showed her experience so we had to consider her.
“In football, things change day by day. Sometimes you have injuries, circumstances and it is a position we could have trouble with during the season. We had an incredible opportunity with Josephine. She wanted to join the club. She wants to show us her value and we made this possible.
“We don’t have anyone else to cover us in the centre-back position at the moment, so it is fantastic to bring a fantastic player full of experience here.
“She can bring competitiveness, experience and she is very intelligent with the ball at her feet. That experience from out point of view is really important. The experience from a player that has been playing in Germany and France can help us.”
