Campbell - Football is about moments

Joel Campbell v Sunderland

By Lloyd Webb

Joel Campbell says “football is about moments” and taking your opportunities when they arise.

The Costa Rica international has been in fine form this season and scored as the Gunners kicked off their defence of the FA Cup with a 3-1 win against Sunderland on Saturday.

Campbell accepts he must continue to work hard to keep his place in the side, but is taking things on a day-to-day basis.

"The truth is that I am just doing my job,” he said. “I’m trying to give my best for the team and taking my opportunities. Thank God things are going well.

"I just see myself as another member of the team. Neither more nor less than the rest of my team-mates. Football is like that.

“It can change from one day to the following one. You're here today but you do not know where you are tomorrow. Today you are in the starting line-up and tomorrow you are on the bench. Football is about moments and you have to take them.

"Obviously when someone works well and conscientiously he will always see the fruits, sooner rather than later. I work hard and trust in my ability. And I know that with hard work and effort the things will be all right for me."
