'Our high-energy approach won the game'

Marta Corredera puts Arsenal Ladies’ win over Chelsea down to the team’s work-rate.

The Spaniard scored a brace as the Gunners beat their London rivals in the Continental Cup, a result that puts them top of their group.

Both of Corredera’s goals came from Chelsea errors, and she says this was down to the team’s energetic approach.

"We needed to force those mistakes for the goals - the mistakes don’t appear alone"

“There was so much effort from everyone,” the Spaniard told Arsenal.com. “We worked hard all week to prepare as much as we could to be ready for this match, and I think those two goals are the result of hard work.

“None of it was luck. We needed to force those mistakes for the goals - the mistakes don’t appear alone.

“Last week against Manchester City in the league we were not good. This week we talked a lot about it, and we’ve worked together and worked hard for this win - and this was much better.”

Arsenal Ladies face Chelsea again on Sunday in the Womens’ Super League, and Corredera says the team will go into the game in confident mood.

“We’re excited about this match because it is so competitive here,” said Corredera. “It is very important - we want the three points.”
