Chuba Akpom came off the bench to score for the second successive game as Hull advanced to the second round of the Capital One Cup with this dramatic victory at Store First Stadium. The forward - brought on for Nikica Jelavic after an hour - slotted home early on in extra-time but Matty Crooks equalised soon after. Greg Luer restored the visitors’ lead before Terry Gornell forced penalties. Akpom was among those to score from the spot to ensure the Championship side’s progression, while Isaac Hayden was an unused substitute.

Emiliano Martinez began life at Wolverhampton Wanderers with this victory over a spirited Newport County side. The Argentine goalkeeper was beaten by Scott Boden six minutes into his debut but Nouha Dicko soon equalised before former Gunner Benik Afobe converted a matchwinning second-half penalty.
