Hector Bellerin’s next challenge is to “confirm” his potential during his second season of first-team football, according to Arsene Wenger.
The Spanish right-back was the breakthrough star of 2014/15 and it was announced that he had signed a new long-term contract with the club on Friday.
Wenger is delighted with Bellerin’s progress and believes he will only get better over the coming months and years.
“He is one of the players who emerged last year and had a very good season,” the manager said.
“Bellerin and Coquelin were not necessarily planned last season to come out and they have to confirm that this season. That’s always very difficult, to produce a similar performance in the second season.
“That’s their challenge. He’s a very mature and very focused player. I’m confident he will have a good season again.”
