Casey Stoney says it is “fantastic" for Arsenal to be so well represented at the Women’s World Cup in Canada.
Four Gunners helped England beat Colombia 2-1 on Wednesday secure a last-16 place, while Siobhan Chamberlain was an unused substitute in Montreal.
Natalia Pablos Sanchon and Vicky Losada featured in all of Spain’s group-stage matches and Stoney is delighted that Arsenal’s players have been able to showcase their talents on the biggest stage.
"It’s great to have four players out there that you know from Arsenal"
“It’s great for Arsenal that there were four players on the pitch at the end of the England game and it’s fantastic to see my club team-mates playing alongside me at a World Cup,” the centre-back told Arsenal.com.
“There are 23 players in this squad who are capable of playing andany one of us can be called on at any time. It’s great to have four players out there that you know, but I’ve played with these England players for years now so it’s no different than playing with team-mates at club and country."
“We’re delighted to be out of the group and delighted to be in the last 16,” added Stoney. “It’s also fantastic for me personally to get 90 minutes [against Colombia] and to win the game.
“We know there is still more to come from us, but we are enjoying the experience. We’re taking each game as it comes to build momentum and that’s all you can do in tournament football.”
