Carl Jenkinson played the full 90 minutes while Calum Chambers was an unused substitute in England’s 3-1 defeat against Italy. Andrea Belotti put the Italians ahead before Marco Benassi’s double extended their lead. Nathan Redmond pulled one back in the third minute of injury time but it was not enough to prevent England from crashing out of the Under-21 European Championships. Jenkinson also started the young Lions' other two group games.

Serge Gnabry did not feature in Germany’s comprehensive 5-0 semi-final defeat to Portugal or in the 1-1 draw against Czech Republic. Nico Schulz gave Germany the lead before Ladislav Krejci equalised, but the point was enough to see Germany advance to the semi-finals. The forward played the final 10 minutes of Germany’s 3-0 win against Denmark and was also an unused substitute in Germany's 1-1 draw against Serbia.
