Over the next week we’ll be reviewing Arsenal's 2014/15 campaign - and we kick off with a look back at the Community Shield triumph.
Just three months after dramatically coming from behind to beat Hull City and lift the FA Cup, Arsenal returned to Wembley to contest the Community Shield against Premier League champions Manchester City.
It was the Gunners’ first chance to build on last season’s momentum and lay down a marker ahead of the ensuing campaign. And Arsene Wenger’s side definitely did that.
"The first glimpses of Mathieu Debuchy, Calum Chambers and Alexis Sanchez gave fans plenty to be excited about"
Santi Cazorla opened the scoring with a low shot in the 21st minute and Aaron Ramsey added a second three minutes before the break, finishing expertly after good work from Yaya Sanogo.
The best was saved for last though, substitute Olivier Giroud producing a thunderous effort from 25 yards seal an eye-catching victory over a rather subdued City side.
Arsenal looked fit, focused and fluent, and the first glimpses of Mathieu Debuchy, Calum Chambers and Alexis Sanchez in red and white gave fans plenty to be excited about ahead of the new season.
