Wilshere on Ozil, Alexis and goals

Jack Wilshere says that he is always looking to learn from the world-class talents of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.

Arsenal fans chose Ozil as their man of the match in Saturday’s FA Cup final against Aston Villa as the Gunners won the competition for a record 12th time.

Alexis scored Arsenal’s second with his 25th strike of an impressive debut campaign, and Wilshere is excited by the prospect of the two combining even more next season.

"Mesut’s a player I look up to. When he’s on the pitch, surrounded by players and under pressure, he’s always got his head up and looking around"

“We’ve got players who can hurt teams with Alexis and Ozil, world-class players we’ve added in the last two seasons,” the England midfielder said.

“Ozil has had a great season, he’s settled, and Alexis having a first season like he’s had is unheard of, so we are looking forward to next season.

“Mesut’s a player I look up to. When he’s on the pitch, surrounded by players and under pressure, he’s always got his head up and looking around. There’s more to come from Mesut and I’m sure he’ll improve [even more] next season.”

Alexis received more plaudits for his stunning goal on Saturday but Wilshere has won the BBC Goal of the Season award for his effort against West Bromwich Albion.

“Twitter spoke!" the 23-year-old said. “There were some good goals. For me it was Charlie Adam’s against Chelsea, or maybe Jermain Defoe’s against Newcastle United. But mine was top four at least!”
