Wilshere on defeat and Fabianski

Jack Wilshere

Jack Wilshere spoke to the media after Arsenal's defeat against Swansea City. Here's what the midfielder said:

on defeat…
We dominated the first half but at the end of the day the only thing that matters is the result. We created chances and I thought Fabianski was brilliant tonight. We fell asleep for two minutes and at this level you can’t do that.

on Fabianski…
When he was at Arsenal you could always tell that he was going to be special. I played with him for two years and sometimes with him it was maybe a little bit mental but it seems like he’s sorted that out and he’s a top-class goalkeeper. Luckily for them he was on form tonight.

on Fabianski’s performance…
I thought Fabianski was brilliant. In the second half we did create a few chances that we should be scoring but Fabianski was there and he’s been fantastic for them this year. I’m happy for him - he’s been my friend for a good number of years while we were at Arsenal. He’s grown as a player and seems to be growing as a person as well, and I’m happy for him.

on whether Arsenal deserved a point…
I think we did. Maybe our first half performance warranted one as well. Fabianski was good in the first half and only seemed to get better as the game went on. We created enough chances and we should’ve scored one.

on a blip…
We’ve got to take the positives. We’ll look back at the game during the week and we’ll see where we should have scored. We switched off towards the end for a couple of minutes and we got punished. If we look back at the 90 minutes, we mostly dominated the game so we can take the positives and we’ll learn from this.

on United…
We’ve been there in the FA Cup this season and won, so we know what it takes. Our confidence will be high going there but we’ve got to perform. It’s no good just going there thinking that we can beat them again because we’ve beaten them before. We’ve got to put in a performance, work hard and earn the right to win.

on not the way he wanted unbeaten run to come end…
We didn’t want it to come to an end at all, but especially at home when we felt like we dominated the game. It’s tough to take but when you dominate a game like that you should be winning it, but we switched off at the end for a minute and got punished. You get punished at this level and we did.

on why Swansea have done the double over Arsenal…
I’m not sure. When we play against a team like Swansea, it’s always a tough game because they want to keep possession as well as we do. It almost plays into our hands when we play against a team that wants to be more direct and we can pick them off and play through them. They want to play in a similar way to us, so it’s almost like you play, we play. I felt in the first half we dominated the game and in the second half we did enough to win the game. When you create that many chances at this level, you need to put one away or you’ll get punished.

on how it felt to be back…
It’s great to be back, especially at the Emirates. I came back last week, played 30 minutes at Hull, but it’s always special to get back in front of your own fans. It felt good tonight.

on making his 150th Arsenal appearance…
Yeah it’s good because it’s my first game back from injury at the Emirates. I made my comeback last week at Hull but it’s always special to get in front of your home fans and it felt good tonight.
