‘The boss has been amazing for me'

Calum Chambers says Arsène Wenger has “exceeded all expectations” he had when he joined Arsenal.

The defender has played regularly during an impressive first season in north London, with highlights including scoring his first senior goal and making his England debut.

Chambers is happy with his progress and feels the boss’ influence has helped him take his game to the next level.

"He gives everyone a chance and he gets the best out of all the players, which is a very good quality to have"

“He’s been fantastic to me - really supportive and he’s given me an opportunity to show everyone what I can do and opportunities to play games,” Chambers told Arsenal Player. “I’m very grateful for what he’s done for me.

“Everyone has expectations on things but he’s exceeded all expectations that I had. He has been amazing for me and I can’t thank him enough.

“I think he’s very thoughtful in everything he does. He gives everyone a chance and he gets the best out of all the players, which is a very good quality to have.”

Chambers says his Arsenal team-mates have also helped him to improve.

“If you want to have a conversation of how you feel you can improve individually, you can go up to them and get advice from them or get experienced players to give you ideas of how you can improve your game,” he said.

“If I wanted to speak to a centre back about how to improve, I could go up to Per or players like that. You can ask them what their thought was on a certain part of the game, so that’s really helpful to have.”
